TFCA Workshop 2017: Giving Back to the Community

ko36_blankets_r16_web         untitled

We give so much of ourselves to our programs and to our patients and their families and transplant has become such a big part of our lives. To some it is not just “what we do” but it is “who we are”.  While we work so hard in our jobs, and play hard in our lives we are lucky enough to be a part of a wonderful organization that has grown over the last 16 years, the Transplant Financial Coordinators Association.  Each year we have groups of TFC’s that work hard to put together our annual workshop, ensuring that we have vibrant speakers, funds, and beautiful locations to enjoy and learn. If you’re like me, people seem to think, and rightly so, that I enjoy a new blanket here and there.  Well, one day I looked around and realized that I have so many blankets that I have run out of places to store them.  Although I still have several (quite a few!) sitting in my living room for me to enjoy.  When my daughter comes home from college she just likes to relax…so the first thing she does is grab a blanket and sit on the couch. I realized that we are going to a wonderful city in 2017, Seattle, and this most beautiful place can be cold in the winter!  And, what can we do with some of those “extra” blankets that we haven’t used yet OR the ones we are going to get for the holidays?  You could also find one while doing your own shopping, I am amazed when I find a blanket at a great price!  There are elderly, needy, and homeless people everywhere but we will be in Seattle and what a place for us to give back to the community…If you’re coming to the workshop, please consider saving a little room in your suitcase to bring a blanket for us to donate.  If you are not able to come, you can send items directly to the hotel (information to be provided closer to the workshop).  Or, if you would like to donate but don’t want to worry about getting items to us, you can go to the TFCA website and use the donate section and we will take all funds to Seattle and purchase items from the local stores.  We are reaching out to the local stores to see if we can get additional discounts off of merchandise as we patronize their businesses.

The organization we have chosen to work with is: Seattle Union Gospel Mission

Pick-up of donations will be at the Sheraton on September 28th between 1-3pm if you would like to participate in the pick-up.
